Maybe anyone will know a solution for this problem. One PC is running Windows XP Service Pack 2 and is connected to local area network with static IP (from series 192.168.x.x) assigned to LAN card (the card itelf is ok, works fine on another copmputer).
The problem is, that it loads very slowly. I mean, when PC is started, Windows XP loads fast, but after entering the desktop, there is not possible to work for about few minutes. You can run any programs (except those, which are loaded automatically due to startup list - these don't start for few minutes). It's possible to open any windows (My Computer, Control Panel and so on) but Network Connections window doesn't work. If i click on this, nothing happens. And just after few minutes it opens autimatically and local area network starts working.
Could anyone tell me more about this problem, please? All your ideas and suggestions are higly welcome

Does this problem occurs just when XP Service Pack 2 is installed? Is it fresh installation (Windows were installed from CD with SP2 integrated) or SP2 was installed over original Windows XP (or XP SP1)?
If you can work with computer (open windows), run Services Management (right click on My Computer, select Manage, then Services and Applications, and Services again). Take a look if there are any service with status "Starting".

Thank you for tips. It's a fresh installation of Windows XP Service Pack 2.
I was trying to check out running services. The one thing is strange here - ATI Smart service with status "Stopping". After few minutes it's not running and computer goes live from freeze. Could it be drivers problems? Using ATI catalyst 5.1.
Should i try to disable ATI Smart service at all? But i'm afraid computer won't start at all with video drivers disabled.

I'd suggest to disable "ATI Smart" service and restart your computer. Windows will start without any problems, just trust me. And if problem won't be resolved, you can just enable it again, right?

I've really found Windows XP is really buggy when it comes to networking. I try to network wireless network in my house and it was about a week before I finally got it working. I try to program called network magic and that seemed to work a lot better when hoping the networking capabilities of Windows Vista the will be better than the ones available in previous operating systems.

Yeah... I think it's because networks are becoming more and more hard to understand. Different protocols, different configurations, etc.
Should we expect not so good future about networks?

you can try to lower the speed of your network cark to 10Mbs. If nothing happens maybe you should try a new card, it is common for some cards to be incomnatible with each other!
